ONE thing COVID-19 simply can’t cancel is Christmas.

All around the world, whether in lockdown or enjoying more freedom, families and friends will connect in some way to celebrate the festive period – albeit in a very different way from previous years.

Here in South Australia we are fortunate that, not only will we be able to celebrate with family and friends, especially those beyond our borders, but there are also some time-honoured traditions we can enjoy.

While many community carols and sitting on Santa’s knee have fallen victim to COVID-safe protocol, with a little ingenuity and outside the-box thinking, South Australians can still enjoy our state's oldest community carols.

At a time when the need for joy and community connection is so acute, we'll be able to tune in and sing along, collectively celebrating this magical time of year.

Here at the Sunday Mail we are honoured to be involved with this long-standing event - whatever guise it takes - and hope, for generations to come, it will remain an integral part of the festive season.

From all of us at the Sunday Mail, we wish you and your family a safe and happy holiday season.
