“More than 50,000 people packed out Elder Park 80 years ago for Adelaide’s first Carols by Candlelight. The tradition caught on for carollers and the St John Carols by Candlelight has become an intrinsic part of our city’s Christmas celebrations. Every year, tens of thousands of people fa-la-la-la-la along to their favourite Yuletide songs, performed by some of South Australia’s brightest musical stars.
The City of Adelaide are proud supporters of this family event, which we were glad to see return to the River Torrens last year. The event also raises money for St John Ambulance, an organisation that helps tens of thousands of people across the state each year through first aid training, event support and social inclusion programs.
